
Michael and Susan were both raised in Florida and felt the call to the mission field before they were married in 1979. After their marriage they started a family and in 1992 were invited to serve in Colombia as foreign missionaries, where they began Open Hearts Ministry. In 1996, Michael and Susan moved the ministry to Nicaragua. Currently the couple oversees all operations of Open Hearts.

Graduated from Lively Technical Center in Tallahassee, Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 2003. She is currently organizing medical teams and runs the Open Heart's prenatal/postnatal program for mothers in La Chureca and surrounding communities.

Chris and Krista moved to Nicaragua permanently in 2005 after studying at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in San Francisco, CA. Chris - originally from Miami, FL - first met Krista and the Buzbee family while visiting Open Hearts in 1999. They were married four years later. They now have three children Aliyah, Mason and Isabella who were all born in Nicaragua. They work in Nicaragua with Open Hearts Ministries helping to oversee and facilitate different aspects of the ministry. They are in Nicaragua because God has called them here to work and to serve Him. God is doing great things in this country to further His Kingdom through Open Hearts and they feel called to be a part of it.

Graduated from high school in 2002 and studied world religions and hermenautics at L'Abri in Switzerland. Melissa is currently the general director of Colegio Cristiano La Esperanza and is also the acting Director of La Chureca Scholarship Program and the Casa Havilah girls rescue home.

Is currently working towards attaining a pilot's license, which will, therefore, allow him and Open Hearts to extend their ministry to the most remote expanses of Nicaraguan territory. However, Brinson and Open Hearts have already begun reaching out to distant communities, such as that of the Miskito Indians on the Rio Coco, in the north of Nicaragua.
Brinson also provides support in facilitating the mission teams that come to minister in Nicaragua.
